The Commission on Ministry (COM) serves as a pastor and counselor to ministers, ruling elders, and Christian educators, facilitating relations between the Presbytery and congregations, and overseeing matters related to ministry.
Role and Responsibilities –
Facilitates Relations: The COM helps to foster healthy relationships
between the Presbytery and its congregations.
Ministry Oversight: The Examination Commission within the COM oversees
matters related to ministry, including the examination and reception of
ministers into the Presbytery.
Pastoral Guidance: It acts as a pastor and counselor to Ministers, Ruling
Elders, and Christian Educators.
Call and Covenant Approval: The COM approves the calls and covenants
of Ministers, Commissioned Pastors, and Validated Ministries.
Dissolving Relationships: The COM dissolves pastoral relationships and
dismisses ministers to other Presbyteries.
Sending Response Teams: to work within churches experiencing stress or
conflict and if necessary, recommends to the Presbtyery the formation of an
Administrative Commission to intervene in acute situations.
Caring for Pastors and Retired Clergy: The COM sponsors gatherings for
lunch, fellowship and mutual support and sends Birthday Cards to retired
clergy.
